Diversity at Stetson Law

Feel welcome and included

At Stetson Law, we believe in a campus community that reflects our society and everything that makes that community richly diverse.

We are continually making progress on our commitment to diversity and our practice of inclusion. We actively foster an environment where all students feel safe, and feel empowered to speak their minds on a broad array of topics. Diversity is reflected in course offerings, student groups, and opportunities to engage with the community.

How does Stetson Law define and embody diversity?

We use the term diversity broadly, encompassing all aspects of human differences, including but not limited to sex, disability, race, age, religion, color, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, physical characteristics, or any other category protected by federal, state, or local law.

Stetson's commitment to diversity extends throughout our educational programs, admissions policies, financial aid, employment, and other school-administered programs. In very real terms, diversity at Stetson Law means a true commitment to including everyone and providing opportunities to find support and engage in activism.

"I was very attracted to the fact that there were clubs and organizations for diverse students"

Taylor Paulin, Stetson Law 2L says, "I went to an undergrad institution that had little to no diversity as I was usually the only Black student in most of my day-to-day activities. When I was choosing between Stetson and another school, I was very attracted to the fact that there were clubs and organizations for diverse students that were very active. This was including students of color, students with disabilities, students on the LGBTQIA spectrum and so many more."

What inclusion means at Stetson Law

While diversity is the acknowledgement of differences between groups of people and perhaps an invitation for such groups to join a community, inclusion involves embracing those differences by valuing and supporting the backgrounds and experiences of every individual and group in a way that will help create a sense of belonging and unity.

Inclusion at Stetson involves providing a voice and a supportive network that will empower each individual and create opportunities for success, both inside and outside the classroom.

"I can see myself represented in the faculty by multiple professors"

"When I was looking into law schools, I really wanted to find a school that had a student organization for LGBTQ+ students and offered a welcoming environment. I was happy to find Stetson's Lambda Legal Society, says Jen Rex, 2L. "The organization continues to grow and find ways to get involved and I am excited to be a part of it. I also appreciate that I can see myself represented in the faculty by multiple professors who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community and a host of others who are allies to the community. "
